Fresh. Light. Effortlessly chic.

Wai Ming, a contemporary apparel collection for women, blends uptown refinement and sophistication with a youthful, downtown edge.  The focus is on feminine and versatile pieces that will take the chic, modern woman from day to night in standout style.  Wai Ming has a fresh-but-timeless quality and is crafted with luxe fabrics from Italy, Japan and China.

Wai Ming – meaning “Gift of Light” in Chinese – is the given middle name of the company’s founder, Emily Brady Koplar.  Born on the longest day of the year, Emily always identified with the name.  After getting married and dropping her middle name, she wanted to pay tribute to her heritage and carry on the name through her clothing line. “Wai Ming” became a perfect fit in the truest definition of the phrase with the collection incorporating a lightness and airiness through fabrication, colors and special design details.

Emily was born in St. Louis, MO and was destined for a career in fashion from the very beginning.  After all of her childhood drawings focused on clothing and design, her mother finally bought her a sewing machine at age 12.  Determined to learn more about the industry at large and to broaden her horizons, Emily attended Boston University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics while also studying French, Spanish and Costume Production.  She spent a semester in Paris interning at Ralph Lauren, and later moved to New York City where she received a design degree from Parsons School of Design.  Emily then honed her fashion and design skills for many years at various companies including Vivienne Tam, The May Company and Aeropostale while designing one-of-a-kind special occasion dresses for events.

Emily – who currently divides her time between St. Louis and New York City – along with frequent travel to the West Coast, Europe and Asia – designs each piece in the Wai Ming collection to effortlessly work from city to city, coast to coast.  Inspired by her family’s multi-cultural heritage - her mother being of Chinese descent and her father of Irish ancestry, Emily’s diverse upbringing and global travels have given her a distinct design viewpoint that she pairs with her studies of art, architecture, nature and street style to create beautifully fresh and unique items that stand out in a crowd.

After years of research and design, Wai Ming officially launches its first collection for Spring 2012.
